The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine joined the Interpol e-MLA Initiative
On April 17 - 18, the Head of the Main Department for International Legal Cooperation Yevhen Pikalov took part in the 2nd meeting of the Working Group on the Interpol e-MLA Initiative held in Lyon (the French Republic).
The aim of e-MLA Initiative is to create an international platform for improving cooperation in providing mutual legal assistance during criminal proceedings. It is planned to create a new (additional) channel for the direct exchange of relevant requests between the central authorities using the Interpol infrastructure.
During 2017, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine processed more than 2,200 MLA requests and following the appeals of foreign colleagues in Ukraine, more than 4,000 investigative actions were conducted. Therefore, the Ukrainian party expressed its full support for this initiative and showed its readiness to actively participate in its implementation.
During the event, there were meetings with the head of international cooperation units of the competent authorities of the United States of America, the French Republic, the Kingdom of Spain and Romania, during which topical issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed.
In addition, there was a discussion with the head of the Legal Office of Interpol, Mary Rodriguez about the prospects for improving the existing international legal cooperation procedures in order to ensure the effectiveness, accessibility and transparency of the process of providing mutual legal assistance, extradition and asset recovery.
