Deputies Prosecutor General held a working visit to the Republic of Cyprus
On April 19-20, Deputies Prosecutor General Yevhenii Yenin and Anzhela Stryzhevska held the working visit to Nicosia (Republic of Cyprus), where they held a number of bilateral meetings with the heads of the competent authorities of that country.
The delegation of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine met with the Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus Kostas Cleridis and the Minister of Justice and Public Law of the Republic of Cyprus Ionas Nikolaou.
The Ukrainian party noted the activization and high level of cooperation between the offices of both countries, starting from 2016, first of all in the investigation of economic crimes and legalization of illegally obtained proceeds.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that ensuring effective international legal cooperation with Cyprus jurisdiction is one of the key tasks of the international direction activity of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, since the companies registered in Cyprus are quite often used by Ukrainian officials and their environment for committing corruption offenses and money laundering.
As the results of the visit, there was agreed a common vision of counteracting criminal schemes in which Cypriot companies and fugitives are used, including through the rapid exchange of information and joint investigations within the existing instruments of international legal cooperation.
