The delegation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine headed by Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko held a working visit to the Kingdom of Belgium
On March 27, 2017, Yurii Lutsenko met with the Federal Prosecutor of the Kingdom of Belgium Frédéric van Leeuw and heads of separate units of the European Commission during a working visit to Brussels (the Kingdom of Belgium).
It was discussed with the Belgian party some issues of bilateral cooperation, including the prosecution of persons responsible for shooting down a passenger aircraft flight MH-17 Malaysian Airlines and encouraged about the inadmissibility of terrorist attacks on civilians.
Mr. Lutsenko noted about the need to expand contacts between agencies in order to exchange professional experience and increase efficiency of bilateral cooperation in the criminal proceedings.
"Concluded in 2015 Cooperation Agreement between the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine the Federal Prosecutor's Office of the Kingdom of Belgium in the fight against cybercrimes, organized criminality, corruption and terrorism was an important step towards strengthening cooperation between the two agencies in combating cross-border criminality," - said Mr. Lutsenko .
During the meeting with Director General of the European Commission for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Christian Danielson and team leader of the Support Group for Ukraine in the European Commission Peter Wagner discussed the ongoing reforms in the agency and the work results of prosecutors combating organized criminality and corruption.
The European Commission assured the Ukrainian party to further support in the process of bringing into compliance law enforcement agencies of Ukraine to international best practices.
