Anatolii Matios met the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks
On April 7, 2017, the Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine - Chief Military Prosecutor Anatolii Matios met the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks in the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.
The Chief Military Prosecutor thanked the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights for the regular visit and paid attention to the problems of human rights in Ukraine.
The European party was informed about the establishment in the structure of Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine of the Department for Investigation of crimes committed in the temporarily occupied territories.
This is the only unit among law enforcement agencies in Ukraine, which will deal with the system collecting evidence of Russian aggression and war crimes, pre-trial investigation and criminal proceedings in this category.
The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, in his turn, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet and discuss the situation in some parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which are beyond the control of the Government of Ukraine and also the issue of abuse of the population in these areas, war crimes investigation results and crimes during the Revolution of dignity and events in Odessa city in May 2, 2014.
Mr. Muižnieks thanked for providing comprehensive information and noted that the issue of human rights violations, investigate war crimes and crimes against humanity are under constant control of the Commissioner of the Council of Europe.
The parties confirmed their readiness for further fruitful cooperation.
