The General Prosecutor of Ukraine held a working visit to the Republic of Latvia
On January 13, 2017 the General Prosecutor of Ukraine Mr. Yurii Lutsenko carried out bilateral working consultations with the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Latvia Mr. Ēriks Kalnmeiers and the top officials of the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB).
In the course of the meetings, they discussed the status of bilateral cooperation in the topical criminal proceedings, existing problematics with regard to the fulfillment of the mutual legal assistance requests, as well as reached arrangements as for providing by the Latvian colleagues assistance in the investigation of criminal proceedings against certain Ukrainian former high-ranking officials and the recovery of the assets obtained by crime.
“One of the top-priority tasks for the Ukrainian public prosecution agencies is to streamline mechanisms of cooperation with competent bodies of key jurisdictions and to work out an efficient strategy for the recovery of the funds that were moved out of Ukraine by criminal means.”
The Ukrainian-Latvian consultations were held in the spirit of reciprocity, were constructive in nature and will contribute to further development of the state-to-state relations in the legal sphere.
