Prosecutors of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office, together with the Security Service of Ukraine, uncovered a traitor who voluntarily joined the Russian army.

According to the investigation, in February 2025, a 40-year-old resident of Kakhovka consciously switched sides to the enemy, signed a contract with the armed forces of the Russian Federation, and joined the ranks of the 205th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 49th Army. The unit is stationed in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson region and actively participates in combat operations.

The man carries out tasks from the Russian command regarding the retention of captured settlements, advancing on Ukrainian positions, and shelling critical and civilian infrastructure.

He has been notified in absentia of suspicion of treason and voluntary participation in armed formations of the aggressor state (part 2 of Article 111, part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

A special pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Chernivtsi region.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
