Ruslan Kravchenko will take a personal participation in the trial of a teenager's death at a funicular station in Kiev

Today, the Shevchenkiv District Court of the city of Kyiv continued the consideration in the criminal proceedings on the accusation of former officer of the State Security Office Artem Kosov in the intentional murder of minor Maksym Materukhin, committed for hooligan reasons at the upper station of the Kyiv funicular in April 2024.

In connection with the public outcry that this case obtained, as well as the deliberate delay of the legal process by the defense, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko decided to get involved in the case and to personally take part in the court proceedings.

In the course of the hearing, the Prosecutor General applied to the court with the motion to provide a lawyer free of charge to the accused, as his lawyers had waived their defence.

«Also I request that the pro bono lawyer provided represent the accused on a permanent basis. After all, we have all seen how former lawyers constantly violated the granted right to defense, disrupted court sessions, did not appear at meetings», — emphasized Ruslan Kravchenko.

The motion has been supported.

In addition, today the court extended the preventive measure in the form of detention for the accused for 60 days.

As it was mentioned earlier, the Prosecutor General has identified the protection of children as one of the priority areas of the activity of all Prosecutor's Offices. All heads and deputies of Regional Prosecutor's Offices are obliged to take part personally in cases of the specified category.
