Prosecutors of Kharkiv region brought to court the case for 5 LNR fighters who tortured and robbed local residents during the occupation of the region

Prosecutors of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office have sent an indictment to the court regarding five militants for acts of treason, cruel treatment of civilians, as well as other violations of the laws and customs of war, committed in conspiracy by a group of individuals (Part 2 of Article 111, Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as amended in 2022).

The accused are militants of the rifle battalion of the 202nd motorized rifle regiment of the "LPR". All the individuals involved are natives of Luhansk region who voluntarily switched sides to the enemy.

Since March 2, 2022, Russian military personnel, including the five accused, took control of the village of Dovhalivka in the Izium district, where they committed a number of crimes.

On April 14, 2022, they stopped a local resident at a checkpoint, abducted him, and took him to a torture chamber set up on the premises of the "Ukrgeofizika" enterprise. Later, the man was placed in a pit, where he spent a total of four days. During his time on the premises, he was held in a room that was not heated during the cold season, without necessary medical assistance, food, water, and the ability to relieve himself, which caused the victim physical pain and moral suffering, while also being subjected to torture, physical and psychological violence. In addition, the occupiers stole a grinder, a brush cutter, and a motor for a boat from the man's home.

Also on April 14, 2022, the accused arrived at the home of a man who lived with his family. They tied his legs with wire, put him in a car, and took him to the same torture chamber. After interrogating the victim, they placed him in a shed and ordered him to dig trenches. In the evening, he was released. The man had his mobile phone, hair clippers, and flashlight stolen.

The accused also conducted "searches" of local residents and forcibly seized their property. Threatening to use weapons, they took ordinary household items from people: mobile phones, laptops, electric stoves, televisions, perforators, trailers, etc.

The accused acted in conspiracy with other occupiers. All measures are being taken to identify them.

The militants are wanted. They will be tried in absentia.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police in the Kharkiv region. Operational support was provided by the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police in the Kharkiv region.
