Automatics, grenades, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and underground workshops for weapon modification - law enforcement has disrupted the activities of an organized group that established an interregional illegal arms market. Part of this weaponry could have fallen into criminal circles or been used to commit serious crimes.
As part of the pre-trial investigation conducted under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, law enforcement uncovered a group of individuals who organized the illegal sale of firearms, including military-grade and modified weapons, as well as ammunition.
As a result of the procedural actions carried out in the Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, 19 authorized searches were conducted, and four stages of controlled operational purchases were previously carried out.
As a result of these measures, the following items were seized from illegal circulation:
• 75 units of firearms,
• nearly 13 thousand rounds of ammunition,
• 38 grenades,
• 21 initiation devices,
• 2 grenade launchers,
• money amounting to over 450 thousand UAH and 11 thousand USD.
It has been established that the suspects not only sold weapons but also modified them independently in underground workshops. Such illegal "shops" were set up directly at the residences of the group members and were used for completing and preparing weapons for further sale. In the workshops, automatics, carbines, shotguns, ammunition, equipment, as well as rough notes, bank cards, mobile phones, and vehicles were seized.
In order to form an indisputable evidence base in the criminal proceedings, four stages of operational purchases were conducted, during which automatics, submachine guns, and a pistol were seized.
Currently, five suspects have been detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Three men have been notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and another three under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Currently, a motion has been submitted to the court for the selection of preventive measures in the form of detention.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
