The Cherkasy Prosecutor's Office provides the boundaries of nature reserves

The prosecution authorities of the Cherkasy region systematically take representative measures to preserve the territories and objects of the nature reserve fund.

The Uman District Prosecutor's Office has filed lawsuits in the interests of the state, represented by the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration and the State Environmental Inspection, to recognize the unlawful inaction of local self-government bodies and to compel them to carry out boundary demarcation works:

- the hydrological nature reserve of local significance "Tsibulivskyi" with an area of 370 hectares (formerly Monastyryshche, now Uman district). The reserve plays a key role in regulating the hydrological regime, maintaining water balance, and natural water filtration. The territory has preserved a typical complex of wetland, meadow, and coastal vegetation, including rare species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, such as hairy feather grass;

- the entomological nature reserve of local significance "Striletskyi" with an area of 2 hectares (formerly Mankivka, now Uman district). The reserve was created to protect the entomofauna (mantises, hoverflies) and to maintain the ecological balance of the region.

The creation of the specified protected objects is provided for by the relevant decision of the executive committee of the Cherkasy Regional Council.

Prosecutors established that local self-government bodies had long failed to fulfill their duties regarding the demarcation of the boundaries of the reserves on the ground, which makes proper control over their usage impossible.

The failure to take measures to comply with the legal requirements for the need to establish the boundaries of the reserves and to enter the relevant information about the protected lands into the State Land Cadastre creates risks of illegal disposal of these lands.

The Cherkasy District Administrative Court agreed with the arguments of the prosecution and granted the lawsuits. After the decision comes into legal force, measures will be taken for its actual implementation.

Overall, in the field of nature reserve fund protection, the Cherkasy prosecution has filed 16 lawsuits, including: 7 mandatory ones regarding the establishment of boundaries of nature reserve fund objects with a total area of nearly 870 hectares (6 of which were satisfied regarding 385.1 hectares) and 9 lawsuits for the return of protected lands with a total area of 230 hectares (4 of which were satisfied for the return of 6.25 hectares).

Thus, the work of the prosecution is a key mechanism for ensuring legality, preserving natural complexes, and preventing illegal disposal of lands of the nature reserve fund of the Cherkasy region.
