Prosecutors in Odesa have reported suspicion against a 65-year-old doctor from one of the city's private clinics. He is accused of extortion and receiving illegal benefits for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
It has been established that the suspect offered a 26-year-old conscript assistance in avoiding conscription. For 7,000 USD, the doctor was supposed to help arrange documents for the man to care for his allegedly sick mother through personal connections in healthcare institutions, the military enlistment office, and the social protection department.
It was planned that the conscript would transfer the first installment immediately, and the rest after receiving the completed documents.
After the first part of the funds was transferred, the doctor was detained by law enforcement officers.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings is being conducted by the Investigative Unit No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region, with operational support from the Odesa Department of the National Police's Department of Internal Security.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
