In Zhytomyr Oblast, a colony employee and his accomplices were exposed for supplying drugs to prisoners

Two convicts serving their sentences in the Zhytomyr Correctional Institution No. 8 organized a scheme for the supply and sale of narcotic and potent medicinal substances among other inmates.

They involved a previously convicted resident of Zhytomyr and an employee of the institution in the criminal scheme.

The resident of the city purchased narcotic and potent medicinal substances and handed them over to a junior inspector of the regime and security department. The inspector brought the prohibited substances into the institution and passed them on to the convicts, who then sold the drugs to other inmates.

Law enforcement documented several episodes of this activity. During another attempt to smuggle drugs, the participants of the scheme were exposed. During searches, narcotic and potent medicinal substances, packaging materials, mobile phones, bank cards, and other evidence were seized.

Two individuals, including the institution employee, were detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Under the procedural guidance of the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor's Office, the accomplices were notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 307 and Part 3 of Article 321 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and preventive measures in the form of detention were chosen.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations located in the city of Khmelnytskyi. Operational support is provided by the Security Service of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr region, the Main Investigation Department of the National Police, and the Department of Combating Organized Crime of the Main Directorate of the National Police.
