In Transcarpathia, illegal felling of a forest in a nature reserve fund was exposed - two persons were notified of suspicion

The Mukachevo District Prosecutor's Office has reported suspicions against two local "black loggers" for large-scale illegal logging in the nature reserve.

According to the investigation, in June–July 2025, two accomplices illegally cut down trees in the territory of the "Synyak" regional landscape park. Without any permits, the men felled dozens of beeches in several sections of the protected area. They sold the timber for cash to local residents.

In total, the men destroyed over 70 trees of various diameters. According to the expert assessment, the cost of damages amounts to nearly 6 million hryvnias.

Currently, the men are hiding from the investigation. Under the procedural guidance of Mukachevo, they have been notified in absentia of suspicion for illegal logging in the territory of the nature reserve, committed by a group of individuals, which caused severe consequences (part 4 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The issue of announcing them on the wanted list and their detention is being resolved.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the investigators of the Mukachevo Police Department No. 1 in the Transcarpathian region under the procedural guidance of the Mukachevo District Prosecutor's Office. Operational support is provided by the Criminal Investigation Department in the Transcarpathian region.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
