Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the defense sector of the Western region, a former head of the engineering service and head of a department of one of the military units of the National Guard of Ukraine has been notified of suspicion.

According to the preliminary investigation, in 2024, the official submitted a report containing information about the direct participation of military personnel in combat operations, based on which, from January to May 2024, additional monetary rewards were calculated and paid.

It has been established that the consolidated unit of the military unit was tasked with constructing fortifications and setting up non-explosive barriers in eastern Ukraine, while the relevant work was carried out outside the line of combat engagement.

According to preliminary calculations, the state has suffered damages amounting to over 72 million UAH. These circumstances have been confirmed by an audit of the Western Office of the State Audit Office, an internal audit of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and a forensic economic examination.

The actions of the former official have been qualified under part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The prosecutor's office is preparing a civil lawsuit for the recovery of damages caused to the state.

The pre-trial investigation and operational support are being carried out by the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
