With the support of the public prosecution, prosecutors from the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office found two individuals guilty of committing robberies in large amounts, in conspiracy, involving the use of violence, robberies aimed at seizing property in particularly large amounts, illegal abduction of a person, and deprivation of liberty (Part 3, Part 4 of Article 186, Part 4 of Article 187, Part 2 of Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
They were sentenced to nine years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Prosecutors proved that two residents of Kharkiv committed a series of crimes related to robberies and thefts over several years, including at currency exchange points in the regional center.
The first recorded crime occurred in February 2017. At that time, the men broke into the premises of one of the enterprises on Kosmichna Street by breaking a window. Inside, they attacked the security guard, struck him in the back, and while holding him on the floor, threatened him with violence. After that, the criminals stole two safes containing over 60,000 hryvnias.
In January 2020, they tracked a cashier from the exchange office, waited for him to return home, and attacked him. After beating him, they forced the man to hand over the keys to the premises. One of the attackers held the victim, threatening him with further beatings, while the other entered the office and stole over 350,000 hryvnias from the safe.
In July of the same year, the criminals attacked an employee of another exchange office. They intercepted her on her way to work, dragged her into a car, and, threatening to kill her, forced her to provide the alarm codes. After gaining access to the premises, the men stole nearly 850,000 hryvnias.
The last documented episode occurred in April 2021. This time, the attackers again used force — they beat the cashier of the currency exchange point, forced her to open the door, and then took over 1.5 million hryvnias.
Law enforcement officers detained the criminals.
The defendants awaited the verdict in custody. During the court session, both admitted their guilt and sincerely repented.
The guilty verdict was issued by the Slobidsky District Court of Kharkiv. The time for appeal is ongoing.
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police in the Kharkiv region.
