A resident of the Myrhorod district has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of his wife. The position of the prosecutors from the Office of the Attorney General and the prosecutors of Poltava region has been confirmed by the courts of three instances.   

The man constantly beat and committed violent acts against his 24-year-old wife. In July 2021, unable to endure the abuse any longer, the woman filed a complaint with the police. Upon learning of this, the man ambushed his wife as she was returning home and demanded that she withdraw her complaint. 

Threatening her with a knife blade, he raped and strangled her. Two minor children are now left without their mother. 

The next day, the man was arrested.

The man was found guilty of rapes committed against his spouse, which caused severe consequences, and of intentional murder committed to conceal these criminal offenses, combined with rape (parts 2, 5 of Article 152, paragraphs 9, 10 of part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). 

The convicted man partially admitted his guilt and appealed the verdict in the courts. The Supreme Court confirmed the harshest punishment for the rapist and murderer.
