The case of six occupiers, who tortured and threatened civilians with execution, was referred to the court

Prosecutors of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office have sent indictments to the court regarding 6 representatives of the occupation structures. They are charged with cruel treatment of the civilian population, committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy (part 2 of article 28, part 1 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The maximum penalty is 12 years of imprisonment.

The "head of the military commandant's office of the people's militia of the DPR," located in Makiyivka, along with three subordinates, detained and terrorized the peaceful population: they detained and brought them to a seized administrative building, where they were held in basements. They were tortured and subjected to psychological pressure. In particular, people were beaten with hands, feet, and rubber truncheons, and were constantly kept in handcuffs. They were put against the wall and simulated execution by shooting into the air.

Two former "heads of the Makiyivka correctional colony," who managed the institution from 2019 to 2024, treated seven captives cruelly. The basis for their detention and abuse was suspicion of "espionage" and "attempting to overthrow the constitutional order of the DPR." Captured Ukrainian citizens were held in cramped barracks. In addition to the seven victims, there were another 50 people held there.

They were regularly beaten. Due to being fed inedible food — porridge covered with lard, chicken bones, and overcooked rotten fish with worms — the captives rapidly lost weight. Detainees were forbidden to lie on beds, and their hygiene needs were restricted — they were allowed to wash only once a week, and the restroom was broken. As a separate form of psychological pressure, the occupiers forced the detainees to sing the anthem of the quasi-republic.

It is worth noting that in the summer of 2025, the occupiers were informed of suspicion.

The pre-trial investigation is conducted by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Donetsk region.

Note: according to article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
