An indictment was sent to the court against the driver for the fact of an accident with minors and leaving them in danger

Under the procedural guidance of the District Prosecutor's Office of the city of Khmelnytskyi, an indictment has been sent to court against a man for violating traffic safety rules while driving under the influence, which caused serious bodily harm to the victim, and for knowingly leaving a person in a life-threatening condition without assistance (Part 2 of Article 286-1, Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The traffic accident occurred on November 1, 2025 in Khmelnytskyi.

According to the investigation, the driver of a Volkswagen Passat, while under the influence of alcohol, hit two minors who were crossing the road at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. A 16-year-old boy sustained moderate injuries, while a 15-year-old suffered serious bodily harm.

The driver fled the scene of the accident, leaving the teenagers without assistance.

According to the expert conclusion, the alcohol level exceeded the permissible limit by nine times. Additionally, the man did not have a driver's license.

Currently, the accused is in custody.

He faces up to 8 years in prison with a ban on driving vehicles for a similar period.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Khmelnytskyi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Khmelnytskyi region.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
