Under the public prosecution of the prosecutors of the Khmelnytskyi Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Western region, the court found a serviceman of the Military Law Enforcement Service guilty of fatally hitting a 57-year-old cyclist while in a state of intoxication.

The accident occurred on August 31, 2024, near the village of Hrytsiv in the Shepetivka district. The military man, while off duty and under the influence of alcohol (1.11 ppm), attempted to overtake in a prohibited area. By entering the oncoming lane, he hit the 57-year-old cyclist, who died at the scene.

After the accident, the convicted individual fled, but was soon apprehended by law enforcement.

The man's actions were classified under part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of traffic safety rules by a person operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in the death of the victim.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations in Khmelnytskyi.
