Former law enforcement officers who defected to the enemy were sentenced to 15 years in prison
19.11.2025
Prosecutors of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor's Office proved in court the guilt of two former law enforcement officers from Melitopol and Prymorsk in state treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Each was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of all property, and stripped of their special ranks of "police captain" and "senior police sergeant," respectively. In addition, each convicted individual is prohibited from holding positions in state authorities (including law enforcement) and local self-government for three years.
Prosecutors proved in court that in April 2022, two men, one in Melitopol and the other in Berdiansk, accepted an offer from the enemy and took positions in illegally created law enforcement agencies.
Thus, the former head of the duty unit of the police station No. 2 of the Berdiansk District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Zaporizhzhia region, upon starting work in the security agency, informed the enemy about the personnel and available weapons of the unit where he had previously worked. After receiving this information, the occupiers seized firearms, special equipment, and service vehicles from the police officers.
Another former law enforcement officer from the Melitopol District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Zaporizhzhia region, by order of the occupation administration, patrolled the territory, searching for and delivering individuals who did not support the occupiers and resisted to the "people's militia of the village of Yakymivka."
The court proceedings were conducted in a special (in absentia) procedure.
The special pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was carried out by investigators of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations located in Melitopol.
